Security Measures

Security - Keeping the game fair

PokerNXT was conceptualized keeping the player and the game at its core. The aim is to keep the game fair and rewarding for each player irrespective of the player's skill or deposit money. Thus, our focus is to keep players data and money safe and keep all the elements of the game fair such as the use of a highly sophisticated Random Number Generator (RNG) in the software that shuffles cards. Our team of poker experts have a keen eye on weeding out negative elements

We operate online cash games and poker tournaments in India, taking a small amount from most cash game pots (in the form of ‘rake') or tournament buy-ins (via entry fees) as financial recompense. Operating with this business model, the integrity of the game is paramount to our success. In fact, we maintain teams of game integrity experts to ensure no player could ever gain an advantage at the table through anything but their own skill and ability.

We aim to provide a fair and honest game. For this reason, allowing players any sort of unfair advantage, or ‘punishing' any players with an unfair disadvantage, would be counterproductive and damaging to our reputation and our business. And as you can see below, would also be technically impossible

Security from Frauds

  1. Multi-accounting

Multi-accounting means that a player has several real money accounts at a single poker site. Online Poker sites forbid players to open more than one real money account per person at their poker site. The main reason for this ban are their poker first deposit bonus offerings. By forbidding multi-accounting, they prevent bonus fraud. However, this is only a problem for the poker site, and not directly for the other players.

But the bigger problem is when multi-accounting players are using two or more accounts to play poker at the same cash game table or at the same tournament. Such a player has an unfair advantage because in cash games he/she can see four and not only two hole cards.

Multi-accounting is a clear case of fraud, and a player who gets caught will be suspended and his bankroll will be retained.

To cash out players will have to upload a copy of their ID first. Furthermore, as a security feature, the same IP address can’t register for the same tournament more than once. In addition to this, if other players detect this form of cheating, they should report the cheater.

  2. Poker Bots

At PokerNXT we use a set of different mechanisms to detect bots. Some of these measures include:

    • Examine whether certain programs are running in the background
    • Taking screenshots, a very effective measure also used in video games
    • Measurement of mouse movements natural
    • Measurement of the reaction time of a player
    • Using a pop-up window where the player has to type in a certain sequence of letters within 120 seconds in order to not be put on “sit-out” on all of his tables.
    • In addition, we prohibit the use of certain programs while playing poker, such as programs which make decisions for the human players or which make them suggestions on how to play a hand in real-time. For example, the use of programs that make push or fold recommendations based on the Independent Chip Model is prohibited.
  3. Ghosting

Giving advice from one poker player to another player during the poker game or tournament is prohibited. A coached player has the advantage that he can discuss difficult situations with his “ghost” before taking the decision. In addition, having a live coach reduces the risk of tilt significantly. Ghosting is mainly used in the late phase of online poker tournaments with high prize pools. It is quite usual that players were lucky and made it into the money or even to the final table. In this case, a coach can help them win thousands of dollars.

  4. Collusion

Cooperative play between two or more players at the poker table. Collusion can mean that two players are spearing each other, are submitting themselves the value of their hole cards or are even intentionally cooperating to win the money of an opponent. Collusion is a clear case of fraud and is prohibited. Online poker players can share their hole cards and intended ways of playing the current hand with telephone, cell phone, Skype or other messenger programs. A milder form of collusion is implicit collusion and is observed between experienced players at the bubble of a tournament. If a small stack goes all-in, it can make sense for the large stacks to call his bet and to check the flop, turn and river. By sparing each other, one can maximize the probability that at least one of them has a stronger hand than the small stack, thus eliminating him/her from the tournament and getting them all into the money. This collaboration by checking-down a hand is allowed as long as it is agreed on implicitly (and not directly, e.g. in the chat).

Software Security

The cards on PokerNXT are dealt in a fair and honest manner. Once the deck is shuffled, it is set, and the order in which the cards are dealt cannot be changed. The software that shuffles and deals the cards cannot control who wins or loses; it just deals the cards and the rest is up to the players in the game.

Our software uses an independently verified Cryptographically secure Pseudo Random Number Generator (PRNG) to produce a shuffle that is completely random, and which favors no player over any other. The methods we use ensure complete randomization of the cards, and complete unpredictability of the cards to come.

Our Pseudo Random Number Generator (PRNG) is evaluated and verified for the following:

Our random number generator is one of the most advanced in the industry. It uses the fortuna algorithm. Fortuna is a family of secure PRNGs and is composed of the following pieces:

Our random number generator has been tested to meet the industry standard for highly regulated jurisdictions. Click here to learn more.

Security of Player Deposits

All player funds and account balances are held in segregated accounts and are never used for operational expenses. Our banking partners are also of high repute and have been chosen by us given their credit and liquidity rating to ensure that we can at all times fulfill our monetary obligations toward our online players and provide further reassurance that player funds are always secure with us.

We have a commitment to ensure that online gaming remains fun and safe. That means preventing people from playing if they are underage, and helping those who do not have control over their playing.

PokerNXT has responsible gaming features to help you avoid losses through irrational play. You can self-exclude and set table & deposit limits on the platform. You can read our responsible gaming policy here.

Secured Account Access

We employ some of the toughest and most secure systems to protect the integrity of your account

Validating your NXT Account using SMS text messaging provides increased security for your account. When activated, you will receive a SMS text message with a secret code if we detect potential irregularities with the operation of your account. In these instances, the facility to conduct real money transactions (including real money play) will be suspended until you enter the provided code into the software.

Activating or deactivating SMS validation for your account can be done via the ‘Settings' > ‘Account Details' menu in the desktop software. If you have any queries, are not receiving SMS validation messages, or no longer have access to the phone number that was registered, please contact Security.

Using a PIN to log in to your account - in addition to your NXT ID and password - provides a further level of security for your account. You can adjust your PIN settings via the ‘Settings' > ‘Account Details' menu of the desktop software, or via the ‘More' menu in the mobile app.

Once activated, you will be prompted to enter your PIN upon each login. The numbers will change position each time, stopping most keyloggers from recording where you click and what buttons you press.

If you lose your NXT PIN, you can request a new one which will be sent to your registered email address. Log in as usual, then click ‘NXT PIN Recovery Service' when prompted for your NXT PIN. If you have lost your NXT PIN and no longer have access to the email address registered to your NXT Account, please email Support.

PokerNXT has invested in tight security measures as mentioned above, and we would also urge you to ensure your computers are protected from malicious types out to defraud you by using the helpful tips mentioned below:

  1. Security suites, software updates

Don't settle for a basic antivirus program you found for free or already bundled with your operating system. Instead, pick up a more robust anti-malware ("malicious software") security suite that offers protection against viruses, worms, Trojans, keyloggers (which can remotely see what you're typing), spam and identity theft.

Paid services are usually updated more often, so you're always protected from the latest threats, and are updated automatically rather than you having to remember to download the latest malware definitions.

It's also important to download the latest free software updates for your operating system, as well as third-party programs, such as Java and Adobe.

  2. Use strong passwords

Creating a good password for online poker isn't difficult, but it does take more time to come up with one than using common ones like "password," "poker," "123456" or your kids' or pets' names — all of which are not recommended for obvious reasons. A strong password is at least seven or eight characters long, has a combination of letters, numbers and symbols and mixes upper and lower cases. It's also a good idea to avoid real words or phrases.

If you don't want to use the recommended combination of letters, numbers and symbols, at least keep in mind that single word passwords are easier to break than multiple word passwords. Instead of "giraffe," use something like "bluegiraffe" or "sillybluegiraffeface." This should be an easy password to remember — and better yet, add a number and symbol to it, too.

"Don't reuse passwords and change them periodically, too,"

It's also not a bad idea to set up a brand-new Webmail address — such as a free Gmail, Yahoo Mail or Outlook.com account — and only use that one associated with your poker account and nothing else.

  3. Select two-step authentication

Poker sites now offer a two-step authentication process. This serves as an extra security measure to protect your online accounts from being compromised. It confirms you — and only you — are granted access to your account.

As the name "two-step authentication" suggests, in addition to a standard username and password you'll also need a code that's sent usually via text message to your mobile phone, or revealed in an app. Before you gain access to the site or app, you'll be prompted to enter that short, randomly-generated verification code.

Some poker sites will send you a small gadget with a screen on it, such as the RSA SecurID products. This security token/key works the same way as a text message — displaying a randomly-generated, one-time-use code to type in along with your password.

  4. Don't play as the Administrator

To be extra safe, you only should play online poker on a PC you don't have administration (admin) rights to. "That way, it makes it difficult for someone to secretly install a program on your PC while that session is on." It's fairly straightforward to set up a new account outside of admin on your machine, call it Poker, perhaps, and log into this before playing poker. "It's not unlike enterprise companies who don't give admin rights to employees, so they can't purposely or inadvertently load software the company doesn't want, and it helps prevent malicious code from running."

  5. Resist public Wi-Fi hotspots

Whether it's at your local coffee shop, in an airport or a hotel lobby, millions of mobile computer users take advantage of the free public Wi-Fi networks, or "hotspots." But don't use it for activities like online poker, banking or shopping.

Some Wi-Fi networks can appear to be legitimate — like a wireless network called "Marriott" or "McDonald's" — when in fact it is a fake. Nearby criminals can create rogue networks that often contain the name of the store, hotel or airport, but actually will direct your information to their own computer. Before logging on, double-check it's legit by confirming the network name at the establishment.

Always assume your Wi-Fi connections are being eavesdropped on. That is, if you're surfing the web on your computer, smartphone or tablet at a coffee shop, do simple things like read the news. Don't enter sensitive data — like your poker site password.

If you like, you can also download and use free VPN (virtual private network) software, like ExpressVPN, to surf anonymously.

Another option is to bring your own network and resist the free Wi-Fi altogether. Specifically, all wireless carriers sell Internet sticks that snap into your laptop's USB port and let you access the Internet via cellular connectivity. Or you might turn your smartphone into a personal hotspot to get online, but be aware of data costs.
